The shortage of next-gen consoles, especially PS5, is still common. Many expected that the problem would be solved throughout 2021, but it has not been. In fact, new reports claim that Sony lowered production expectations for new PlayStation 5 consoles by early 2022.
According a new report published by BloombergSony had projected to produce 16 million PS5 consoles in the fiscal year ending March 2022. However, it has had to reduce this number by one million units. His new goal is 15 million. That will make it harder for it to meet its goal of selling 14.8 million units for the same month.
What is the reason for this reduction in production? Sony’s official position is that it is due to “component and logistics limitations.” Basically, the PS5 shortage is still due to the fact that there are no chips to make them.
In October, during a presentation to the company’s shareholders, Sony executives explained that sales of the new console are slightly below expectations. This is not due to a lack of interest in the users, but to logistics problems and a shortage of materials to manufacture new units. The resurgence of COVID-19 around the world did not help.
This news comes shortly before the celebration of the first anniversary of the arrival of PlayStation 5 to the market, which was on November 12, 2020. Many players still cannot get one despite trying to buy it from day one.
Well if we don’t get one, at least in the future their games could reach PC.
