The action sequel Overwatch 2 is currently being developed at Blizzard Entertainment, and LEGO actually wanted to release a LEGO set shortly to go with it. Due to the events at Activision Blizzard, this will not appear for the time being.
Activision Blizzard has long been criticized for allegations of sexual harassment and workplace bullying. Quite a few employees had to leave, and various proceedings are ongoing because of this. More and more companies have therefore announced that they are rethinking their collaboration with the publisher – and this has recently also included LEGO.
The LEGO Group actually wanted to release a new LEGO set based on the upcoming Overwatch 2 in February, as you already know about Nintendo’s Mario, for example. However, the first step is to refrain from the planned release.
A statement said that due to concerns about the culture at work, Activision Blizzard is reviewing the partnership further. In particular, the focus is also on the treatment of female employees and the creation of a diversified and inclusive work environment.
“While we finish this review, we will first pause the release of a LEGO Overwatch 2 product that should go on sale February 1, 2022,” it concludes.
The LEGO-Seet Titan was supposed to take up a scene from the announcement video for Overwatch 2 from BlizzCon 2019. LEGO figures of the Overwatch heroes Tracer and Mei, who fight against Omnic Titan, are planned. The set was announced in December. LEGO and Blizzard partnered several such LEGO sets in 2018.
Activision Blizzard is currently facing multiple legal disputes and government investigations into the allegations. CEO Bobby Kotick has also been asked to resign several times. When Overwatch 2 will appear as a game and also the LEGO set is currently not known.
