The term “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome” only came into circulation in the late 1980s. Previously, the disease was known as “benign myalgic encephalomyelitis.” With an increasing international number of cases, the US health authority CDC proposed the modern term, “CFS” for short, as a neutral name in 1988.
