If you want to play Destiny 2: The Witch Queen on Steam’s new Handhald PC, you should be extremely careful, otherwise playing could soon become impossible.
There’s a new statement in an update to the Destiny 2 help page, and prospective owners of Valve’s Steam Deck might not like it at all. It states very clearly that Destiny 2 is not supported for play on the Steam Deck or on a system using Steam Play’s Proton unless Windows is installed and running.
Additionally, players attempting to launch Destiny 2 on the Steam Deck via SteamOS or Proton will be unable to enter the game and will be returned to their game library after a short period of time. So far not bad, but if you try anyway, there are obviously consequences: Players who do not access Destiny 2 via Windows and try to circumvent the SteamOS/Proton incompatibility will be banned from playing.
Nothing is currently known about the reasons for these measures. However, it is generally assumed that the game’s anti-cheat software is behind it.
