Have you ever opened the map in Elden Ring and then asked yourself: Didn’t this spot look a little different recently?
Don’t worry, your brain isn’t playing tricks on you here, From Software actually made a few minor changes to the map after the fact.
Changes that the developers didn’t mention in any of the patch notes. The YouTuber illusory wall however, a detailed video documents these revisions, showing how the map has subtly changed here and there.
By the way: We have already discussed in another news item what the Elden Ring map would look like if you only followed the main story.

Elden Ring: How the map changed
In a good 19 minutes, the illusory wall video summarizes the previously known changes to the map – and they fall primarily quite subtle and small out of. Most players shouldn’t even notice the cartographic overhauls and, let’s be honest, they don’t have any real impact on the gaming experience either.

Instead, the changes mostly serve to make the map easier to read or to display it in detail. For example, in Limgrave, a small stone was removed from the map that was never present in the game world. In Liurnia, on the other hand, a whole peninsula in the shape of a fish fin was removed, which also didn’t really exist.
Elsewhere, certain icons have been revised or paths are displayed more correctly after the change. Also, certain castle walls are now more visible on the map.
About the reasons for the changes can only be speculated. Some points on the map may have been leftovers from previous versions of the game that didn’t end up in the final game. Or From Software worked on the game world until shortly before the end without correcting the details of the map accordingly.
However, we were able to determine in the detailed test that all this work was worthwhile – and we particularly praise the world of Elden Ring:
