Although there will be fewer conferences this year, the program is already full. For those who just want to see the essentials, here’s our pick with a taste of what to expect.
State of Play (PS VR 2) – June 2 at 11:59 p.m
Eagerly awaited by fans of the brand, Sony’s next State of Play should highlight a whole host of games coming to the manufacturer’s consoles. However, the color was announced from the outset: third-party publishers and PSVR2 will be given priority. PlayStation could still have some nice surprises in store though, especially with the new Final Fantasy 16 trailer and why not a little taste of FF7 Remake 2. Forspoken, which is often put forward by the publisher, could be typed as well as Street Fighter 6 make an appearance.
On the PS VR 2 side, Sony should duly reveal its potential future killer app: Horizon Call of the Mountain, as well as the rest of the line-up for the VR headset launch. 20 games are expected for release, we should finally discover some of them.
Summer Game Fest Conference 2022 – June 9th at 8pm
Instead of the big Summer Game Fest conference, the official E3 is cancelled. With more than thirty publishers attending, world premieres galore and exclusive editions as we are used to, this is THE conference not to be missed. Callisto Protocol, Saints Row, Marvel’s Midnight Suns, Alan Wake 2, Resident Evil Village DLC, Pragmata, Silent Hill Remake, Resident Evil Remake, Death Stranding 2, Gotham Knights, Call of Duty Warzone 2… The list of expected games is up incredibly long and this year Geoff Keighley promises us an even more spectacular show of more than two hours. How many are we really going to see? Answer the big night.
Netflix Geeked – 6th-10th June
Also this year, Netflix will hold a conference every day on specific topics, including movies and series. Players should pay particular attention to those on June 9th and 10th, which will feature Edgerunner, the Cyberpunk 2077 anime, and update on Arcane, the hit series based on League of Legends. The evening of the 10th will be entirely devoted to video game adaptations such as The Cuphead Show, Sonic Prime, Tekken: Bloodline, DOTA: Dragon’s Blood, as well as future titles from the streaming giant’s gaming catalogue, including Casa de Papel.
Tribeca Games Spotlight – June 10 at 9 p.m
Fans of independent games and narrative games will not be left out. The Tribeca Games Spotlight is signing a re-release headlining A Plague Tale: Requiem, which will also be playable during the festival. For those who don’t want to pay $5 for demos, the long-awaited sequel is coming to Showcase. Alongside this, some other promising games, including Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals, As Dusk Falls, the exclusive Xbox narrative invented by a Quantic Dream veteran, or Immortality, Sam Barlow’s new project. Thirsty Suitors (Annapurna Interactive), American Arcadia (Raw Fury) and The Cub (Untold Tales) will also be there.
Guerrilla Collective & Wholesome Direct
Another must-attend event for fans of indie games and AA: the Guerrilla Collective & the Wholesome Direct. The first conference will present a wealth of games, including the terrifying Madison, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, South of the Circle, The Cub or Daymare: 1994 Sandcastle. Also, some new features will be announced.
As for the Wholesome Direct, it’s the unmissable event for lovers of cute games, which will also reveal the release date of Ooblets, the title halfway between Animal Crossing, Pokémon and Stardew Valley, and Terra Nile, the green management game from Devolver Digital should.
Future Games Show 2022 – June 11 at 5 p.m
It’s a bit like the potpourri of Summer Game Fest 2022. On the program AAA, indie games, in between, world premieres and announcements around expected titles. The event will be moderated by Geralt and Yennefer themselves: Denise Gough and Doug Cockle. A total of 40 games will be shown, including projects from Team 17, Thunderful and Amanita Design. The old editions had reserved some good surprises, so we will be watching the event closely.
Xbox +Bethesda Showcase – June 12 at 7:00 p.m
This will be THE big publishers conference this summer. Xbox will return with its new filly to showcase future major Xbox exclusive series, One and more. If the Redmond company hasn’t confirmed a game yet, Starfield, Redfall, Hellblade 2, State of Decay 3, or even Avowed are all highly anticipated. Microsoft might still have a few surprises in store for us, in addition to revealing its plans for Xbox Game Pass. Maybe the dongle will be formalized for direct access to the service on TV? The conference promises to close this first part of Summer Game Fest 2022 in style.
