Oops, that doesn't look right.
Or at least that's what I was thinking when I brought my Game Boy Advance down from the opic. You see, my niece was dating her recently Pokémon sword, and he was as close to Pokémon as I was to his age. I wanted to show her Pokémon Blue.
Unfortunately, the SP battery was dead. It is a sign of the reliability of Nintendo handhelds that my part was surprised when the device I didn't use you know how many months there was still little juice left in the tank. But it wasn't until I opened it that I realized that the connected battery was under my problems. The battery cover was mounted too high outside, touching the small screw and holding it all together. Inside, I was pretty sure I was getting a bulging, explosive, battery pack. So much for taking the memory road down.
I carry old and forgotten electronics to know that anything not in the living room of the battery is bad news. Even now, there are Xbox 360 controllers and even Game Boy Color in my Attic that still carries strong remnants of apathy. And yet my SP was always so sturdy and looked unstoppable for a time to remember I never thought twice about leaving it in the attic toilet bowl where temperatures usually climb above 110 degrees in the summer and drop into the low 40s during the winter.
This happened, I was not alone. “Is the GBA SP battery too small? "That is not normal," replied the man. It's still common, however, evidenced by many Reddit threads, forum posts, and YouTube videos about replacing old SP batteries.
Nintendo stop using retro handheld apps long ago, and now inspires people to seek parts for recovery from third parties to sites such as Amazon. There, the 3.7V rechargeable lithium packs work for about $ 10. My post is already posted. But then I doubt somehow that it will be as good as it used to be, which has been going on for me for almost two decades.
Here's the dream part: Not only did I discover when I removed the back plate that the battery was already in one piece, there was no increasing toxicity, and it worked. After tracking my AC's old AC adapter, I charged it for half an hour, clicked the power button, and was immediately greeted Advance Wars 2 screen title Power play, of course.
Don't worry, I've learned my lesson and I have no plans to file my SP for further abuse. I will replace the new battery as soon as it appears. But holy hell, after 17 years and a little something still has the power to shock and surprise you.
