news hardware iOS 16: Here are the new features that will change everything on the iPhone
Whoever says iOS 15 last year says iOS 16 this year, and that’s what we got during the Apple keynote this Monday, June 6 at 7 p.m. We are in the process of presenting you the main new features that will be present in the iPhone 14, among others.
iOS 16: The next big iPhone 14 special update is packed with new features
From July you can download the beta of the next iOS version, which will be compatible with all devices from the iPhone 8 included. Regarding novelties we find:
A beautiful lock screen
Rumors are floating arounda possible always-on screen, we’re talking about Always On, for the future iPhone 14. Given Apple’s tremendous work on the iOS 16 lock screen, this rumor seems to be confirmed. Apple just added unprecedented customization features. It will now be possible:
- Change time font
- hand elements of wallpaper, like people in front of the time display for an amazing relief effect
- location Widgets on the locked screen, all customizable, such as B. the weather or Apple Watch activity
- Create multiple lock screens and display them according to your preferences or the activated concentration mode
- Do you have new modules that are visible on the locked screen such as Track the arrival of an Uber ride or a live game
- The music widget is finally changing and doesn’t take up as much space anymore.
Much less intrusive notifications
Like any iPhone owner, you get a lot of notifications, and even with the changes made since iOS 14, you’re still not happy with how it looks, and neither is Apple.
iOS 16 is responsible for further changing their operation. They appear at the bottom of the screen so as not to cover up your wallpaper, and you can hide them at any time. In addition, Apple adds Live activity to follow an event like a live football match and avoid getting tons of notifications for every action.
iMessage se paufine
The Messages application is also entitled to some improvements, and not the least. From now on it is possible Edit a message after sending it. No more typos or mistakes that create misunderstandings and require retyping the message by adding an asterisk.
You can also simply delete a message if we regret sending or if we chose the wrong conversation. A feature also allows you to mark a conversation as unread. Concretely, these additions are more of an alignment with other messaging services than true innovations, but it’s always good to take them with you.
Apple doesn’t stop there though, adding:
- shareplay in news, to watch a series or listen to music with a friend while chatting via SMS.
- The dictation function, which can mix between speech and text, to dictate content and easily switch to the typed version and even select typed text to replace it directly with dictated text.
Live text is already improving
We discovered Live Text with iOS 15 last year and were amazed at how easily the iPhone recognizes text on a photo to transcribe and translate it. Now with iOS 16, Live text also works in videos, where you can pause to scan text at any time.
We will find too Live text in Translator app. Apple is finally embracing Google Translate to offer instant translation through the iPhone camera.
Apple’s Home app takes on a whole new dimension
We already knew a little, but Apple is finally confirming it: the brand is working on the integration of HomeKit products (connected objects for the home and compatible with Apple products). the “Matter” standard, which will make HomeKit devices compatible with any other device that also conforms to this standard.
So no more operational problems between products of different brands.
CarPlay, a complete overhaul
The CarPlay interface takes on a whole new dimension. It becomes fully customizable and can take control of the entire interface of compatible vehicles to achieve total homogeneity. This therefore adds the display of speed, revolutions per minute… previously reserved for the main screen of the vehicle.
Apple Pay adds installments
With the new service “Apple Pay Later, soon it will be possible to pay automatically and free of charge in installments at all terminals and payment systems that support Apple Pay. The brand is not very clear about compatibility, but if this option is well received in France, it will be a big blow to the dedicated services that already exist.
Apple Maps is finally becoming drinkable
If many iPhone owners use Google Maps and not Apple Maps, it’s because Apple’s app is lagging behind. But maybe these additions will change things up (a little).
- route with several stops
- Support of Bike tours in France
After all, Apple kept making that clear throughout the keynote New features added to iOS 16 claim their own API, meaning developers can easily create and add their own version that links to their app. It’s a big step for Apple to open up its operating system.
iOS, the mainstay of the iPhone since 2007
When Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, Steve Jobs made sure to hook his own operating system directly to give him complete control over the user experience.
From the start, the iPhone has an undeniable advantage over Android and its multitude of different manufacturers trying to somehow optimize a single operating system for each of their models. A limitation that Apple does not have, knowing that the brand also takes care of the design of its own chip. The whole results in a well-designed universe with components that work perfectly together.
The biggest iOS revolution came in 2013 with iOS 7, with a complete visual overhaul that said goodbye to 3D effects by flattening out the user interface. It was designed by famous Apple designer Jony Ive and his team.
For a long time, this world created by Apple was considered very closed, but over time it has opened up, notably by adding to iOS many functions previously reserved for Android or jailbroken iPhones.
Today with iOS 15 and now iOS 16, Apple is improving its operating system, bringing great new features, but mostly focusing on optimization and stability.
