A highly anticipated trailer for Super Mario Bros.
Finally, during a (very) short Nintendo Direct, the Kyoto company presented the first trailer for the film, dedicated to their mascot, Mario. A long-awaited project as it is produced in collaboration with Illumination Entertainment, a well-known film production company Me, ugly and mean
After that, we were treated to a speech from Christopher Meledandri, CEO and Founder of Illumination Entertainment, who said it was a privilege to be working on a project like this, which is set to wrap up next week. Currently, the teams are finalizing the lighting and composition of certain scenes of the film. During this broadcast, we also learned that Koji Kondo, Mario’s legendary composer, was working on the feature film. Finally, Mr. Chris, as Shigeru Miyamoto calls him, said the film had been in the works for seven years.. Just before we saw the trailer, we were treated to interventions from Chris Pratt and Jack Black, two well-known Hollywood actors who play Mario and Bowser, respectively, and who share the honor that it means to play such iconic characters.
Chris Pratt as Mario and Jack Black as Bowser, how does it look?
As for the trailer, it’s split into two parts. First, we discover a land of ice submerged by some sort of floating lava-covered land surface bearing Bowser’s face. Quickly, Koopas come down with Namek, one of the generals, leading them. Eventually, it’s Bowser himself, doubled down by Jack Black, who arrives and faces the ice castle.. Then we discover that it’s inhabited by a kind of penguin who tend to push themselves back with the help of snowballs… to little effect. Eventually, Bowser destroys the castle gate and gets his hands on a star that seems to empower him.
At the end of this sequence Finally we discover Mario coming out of a pipe and seemingly lost when he ends up in a world covered with mushrooms. Without too many surprises, this is the kingdom of mushrooms and we finally discover the voice of the famous mustachioed Italian plumber played by Chris Pratt. Then he met a toad played by Keegan-Michael Key (Jordan Peele’s sidekick (Go out, Us, nope)) who gives him a little scare before leading him to the castle in the distance. The trailer then ends with a shot of Mario and Toad heading towards the building, with the game’s theme of Super Mario Bros. that sounds, but in a more epic Hollywood version. A little later we see Luigi, played by Charlie Day, who is being pursued by a Skellerex army and takes refuge in what appears to be an abandoned castle.
So that ends the first trailer for the Super Mario Bros. movie, while Miyamoto reminds us that the movie will of course be for everyone, and that it will be shown in cinemas on March 29th. In the meantime, new excerpts are published regularly.
