In April 2021, Tech Advisor underwent the second biggest transformation in its history, having left the long-established PC Advisor brand in 2017.
We migrated the site from a country level domain (.co.uk) to a global domain (.com) and at the time I noticed it was because we were no longer catering only to English-speaking visitors residing in the UK, but English-speaking visitors from around the world.
It also tied in nicely with a period of transformation within our parent company, IDG Communications – now Foundry – during which we planned to centralize our consumer editorial teams operating in the US, UK, Australia, France, Europe, Germany, Sweden and Poland.
For our regular visitors from the UK, it is unlikely that many changes were immediately obvious. We’ve started introducing local prices for the US, Canada and Australia into our roundups of top picks and deals, although you’ll only see these if you’re traveling from outside the UK. We have also started to cover more and more products available elsewhere in the world and to work with expert publishers outside of the UK. Indeed, at first glance, it might have seemed to many that we were making a fuss about having changed our URL. (We weren’t, I promise!)
Fast forward to June this year and Tech Advisor underwent its third major transformation, as we migrated the site from our own content management system to the popular WordPress platform. For the outside world, the changes include a new font, a friendlier navigation system, and a generally improved design. But for us writers, it was a momentous change, as it meant we now had access to a centralized content hub and a platform that would enable new features that could be quickly rolled out with developer resources. shared.
One of these new features is the ability to create new editions in other languages as we continue to expand the global reach of the Tech Advisor brand. And this week we welcome our very first edition of Tech Advisor, as the team previously operating under the Foundry brand PCWorld España joins the fold.
PCWorld España has its own rich history, having first appeared online in 1995, and our Spanish editorial team Alba Mora Antoja, Sara Piquer-Marti and Alfonso Casas have over 30 years of editorial experience in the consumer technology space. . Starting today, they will instead provide their high-quality editorial content to all Spanish-speaking visitors via Tech Advisor.
Don’t worry, you’re not about to start seeing content in Spanish appearing in your News Feed. Whether you see the English or Spanish edition will depend on where in the world you are, but if you want to take a look at our shiny new Spanish edition, you can visit it directly at techadvisor.com/es-es or by selecting from the Menu button at the top of the page.
Adding a Spanish edition is just the start of Tech Advisor’s overall transformation. At the beginning of 2023, we will also welcome the team behind Tech Advisor France. Beyond that, the world is our oyster – and the future of Tech Advisor is very exciting indeed.
As always with any major code change, you might see a few bugs on the site over the next few weeks. Please contact me or Tech Advisor editor Jim Martin with any issues.
