One of Netflix’s sitcom staples – The Office (US) – will leave the service early in the new year.
This is a monumental loss as it has consistently been one of the most popular shows since its arrival in 2021. The last day Netflix UK viewers will be able to watch the series is January 1, 2023giving you a few weeks to gorge on some of your favorite episodes of Michael Scott and the Dunder Mifflin Crew.
In addition, December 31, 2022 will be the last day of broadcast of the series for the following countries: Belgium, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Europe, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
The show is axed due to the end of licensing agreements with NBC Universal. Netflix US has already lost The Office (US) to Peacock after its parent company paid $500 million for a five-year deal according to The Hollywood Reporter. This shows how valuable The Office is to streaming platforms.
Netflix managed to bounce back from losing its subscribers earlier this year with the release of season four of Stranger Things, but it will be a blow to the platform at the start of the new year.
Can I still stream The Office (US) in the UK?
The Office (US) won’t be on Netflix, but it’s still available on Amazon Prime Video and the Sky streaming service Now.
As far as we know, the show will remain on both services.
You can watch Prime Video either by signing up for a full Amazon Prime subscription, which costs £8.99 per month or £95 per year. It also allows you next day delivery, access to flash sales such as Prime Day, e-books, music streaming and more. If you are a new user, you can get a 30-day free trial.
Alternatively, if you just want to stream movies and TV shows, you can opt for a standalone subscription for Prime Video. It’s £4.49 per month.
To watch through Now, you’ll need an entertainment subscription. It usually costs £9.99 per month. However, at the moment you can grab this and a cinema subscription for just £12 a month for six months.
