The Xbox series could soon give us a nice surprise by directly copying what has been done by the competition.
If the Xbox series, and the Xbox brand in general, has something for them, it’s their controller. Since the Xbox 360, Microsoft has offered absolutely flawless and very ergonomic pads, which are often even more popular than PlayStation controllers. However, Sony scored a lot of points with its PS5 and Microsoft could definitely take inspiration from that.
Xbox wants its Dualsense
According to Nick, a well-known Xbox Era “insider”, joined here by Jeff Grubb for a podcast, Microsoft is currently working on a brand new controller that will feature the same technologies as the Dualsense PS5, or at least some of them. In particular, it is said that the manufacturer aims to integrate a touchpad in the center of the controller, as in PlayStation since the PS4, or that it wants to implement an advanced vibration system, the famous haptic feedback. However, the controller would retain its original design, with its asymmetrical joysticks and central Xbox button.
Some time ago, Microsoft filed a patent for controllers that come with a small built-in LCD screen. According to Nick’s sources, these controllers would no longer be used, but the design would remain. Microsoft finally integrated the touchpad instead of the screen planned for the prototypes.
A new controller soon?
The Xbox Series (and/or the next consoles) could therefore be entitled to a whole new line of controllers. However, Nick teases in his podcast by pointing out that it’s just a prototype. For our part, we take out the tweezers and also soften us, remembering that this is Nick from Xbox Era and that the latter sometimes tends to speak very quickly. In addition, prototypes and patents are sometimes simple tests and do not guarantee the arrival of new devices. Nevertheless, they give some suggestions as to the direction in which manufacturers can go.
However, it clearly wouldn’t be surprising to see Microsoft looking to further develop its controllers. Xbox series pads haven’t improved much compared to the Xbox One generation and we know the manufacturer has a lot to offer. Xbox can indeed count on their selection of elite controllers of high quality and there are even pads designed entirely for gamers with disabilities. Microsoft is therefore constantly striving to develop its offering and the next step might therefore be to steal some ideas from the competition.
