The Last of Us series will remain faithful, but not in all respects. Violence will be much less present than in the games, but for good reason
As fans eagerly await the series The last of us from HBO is gradually being revealed. We’ve already seen the entire cast in costume, some of the secrets the series was meant to reveal to us, as well as a ton of visuals, but Neil Druckmann, the creator of the license The last of ustells us more about the differences between the show and the games.
The Last of Us series is less violent than the first game
In the columns of the next SFX magazine, the man returns to violence, explaining that it will be much less present in the series than in the games. A form of video game censorship deemed far too violent. Neil Druckmann doesn’t mind, however, as he explains that the showrunners had very good reasons for not spreading as much hemoglobin as in his games.
As a full-fledged mechanic, we needed a certain level of action and violence to be able to connect with Joel and feel his emotions.
But there is no such thing with passive media. At the very beginning of writing, one of my favorite things to hear from Craig Mazin and HBO was, “Let’s cut out all but the essential violence.” This allowed the violence to feel even stronger than in the game, because if you stick to that, showing the threat and seeing the characters’ reaction to that threat makes it even scarier. So when we reveal the infected to be the clickers, we really understand what caused human extinction and why everyone is so afraid of it.

In other words, the series The last of us should focus more on the human aspect than the big show and the blood. The goal of the series is therefore to make the infected more fearsome and menacing than ever, tending in the game to massacre them with a shovel, multiplying the bloody kills. The violence will therefore not be as baseless as in the games. More generally, action should be less present in favor of suspense.
It must be said that in the base game, although less violent and gory than the second opus, the murders remain quite violent and brutal. The showrunners and HBO certainly don’t want to make their series a clone of the Walking Dead, AMC’s cult series that’s never been denied when it comes to bringing guts to the big screen and more. It remains to be seen how they pulled off their trick.
