Naughty Dog was first spotted on GamesRadar, which says that developing PC games isn’t over yet.
The Last of Us Part 1, which just released yesterday on PC, won’t be the last PC game we’ll see from the developer. To celebrate the game’s release on PC, Naughty Dog shared a blog post with plenty of interesting information about the The Last of Us Part 1 port.
“Following the release of the PC version of UNCHARTED: Legacy of Thieves Collection, we focused our efforts and learnings on the PC version of The Last of Us Part 1. Behind the scenes, we worked hard to ensure that The Last of Us Part 1 is a real, satisfying experience for those who play games on PC,” the blog began.
For starters, the engine Naughty Dog used in Part 1 was optimized for PS5, which allowed the team to do a lot of fine-tuning when porting it to PC. Naughty Dog also wanted to address the “realities of different hardware,” discussing the DualSense controller’s joystick and how to use it to avoid infection or to play “tactile and emotional” in a sneaky way.
Of course, keyboards and mice “don’t necessarily behave in the same way as controllers,” so Naughty Dog continues to explore its options in an attempt to provide “the same level of tactile and suspenseful gameplay that console gamers love.”
As for what’s next for Naughty Dog, it says PlayStation and PC gamers can “rest assured” that it’s already looking forward to sharing more with players, whether they prefer to use a DualSense controller or a keyboard and mouse. The developer intends to develop games for both platforms, which “allows us to incorporate the lessons learned from both platforms into the overall design of our games.”
The blog concludes by thanking the Last of Us community for all their support and enthusiasm over the past decade, and welcoming new players to the world of TLOU.
What’s about to happen in the TLOU universe? Well, season 2 of the HBO TV adaptation should arrive in late 2024 or early 2025, with a multiplayer spinoff.
