We recently commented on how the development of tvOS, the Apple TV operating system, was systematically abandoned by many providers, including YouTube (Google) and even Movistar+. For now, despite the fact that the HBO app wasn’t exactly one of the finest, it’s continued to stand the test of time in a relatively noble way.
Now HBO Max just becomes Max, and it does without the native tvOS player, so it now loses most of its valuable features.
The positive point, if we can consider it that way, is that HBO Max continues to provide services in USA, far from the jump that it offered in the United States of America, where it was renamed only Max, under three new and expensive subscription formulas:
- MaxLite: Stream to two devices in Full HD resolution, no downloads or ads, starting at $9.99.
- Max: Play on two devices in Full HD resolution, with 30 monthly downloads and without ads, from $15.99.
- Max Ultimate: Streaming on four devices in UHD (4K) resolution, with 100 monthly downloads and ad-free, starting at $19.99.
At this time, we do not know if the current prices of HBO Max will be maintained, and if the guaranteed “lifetime” rate for HBO Max users who paid $4.99 per month will be respected or not. This, yes, now we will have access to more content, integrating Discovery.
Other media have already said that the application in USA will be updated without further delay, as happened with HBO, What they don’t say is that now “Max” does without the built-in player in tvOS, and probably also in iOS. In the United States of America, where it has already been deployed, doesn’t offer Dolby Atmos audio, HDR content suffers and the Picture-in-Picture function was lost, as well as the reduction of loud sounds,
