game news The creator of Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding thinks he’s Tom Cruise and wants to go to space for inspiration
Hideo Kojima definitely hasn’t surprised us yet. After his unique Death Stranding, the video game developer wants to follow in Tom Cruise’s footsteps and fly into space for a crazy project. We explain it to you!
Hideo Kojima, the man who wants to connect the worlds
If you’ve played Death Stranding, you know that the symbolism of the link is an important part of it. In addition to the scenario of the game and the main function of its hero, Sam Porter Bridges, Death Stranding is a game that was born thanks to many links: the link between video games and cinema, with the presence of Guillermo Del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen or Norman Reedus, but also the Connection between the developers that is central to the creative process of the game. And it’s no coincidence that Kojima chose this theme for his first standalone game. In fact, this is what this well-known creator of the video game industry wants above all else “connect the worlds”.
When we became independent three and a half years ago, we had nothing. All we had were connections with people, connections with fans. This was the case with Norman Reedus, Guillermo Del Toro, Mads Mikkelsen and Nicolas Winding Refn. I literally put my links in the game.
Interview with Kojima from Sony
For this reason, the documentary about his person is called Hideo Kojima: connecting worlds. Signed by Kojima Productions, Filmworks and PlayStation Studios, this film is set to return to the era when Kojima left Konami and started his own studio. It was announced almost two weeks ago and then gave us a date for its premiere on Saturday 17th June during the Tribeca Festival. On this occasion, of course, the man took the stage and took the opportunity to tease us a little about the future.
At the NYC premiere of Hideo Kojima’s documentary Connecting Worlds, Geoff Keighley asks Kojima what he wants to do in the future:
“I want to fly into space. I want to go to space and make a game that can be played in space… So someone please send me to space.” pic.twitter.com/lbFd5VsNM6

As we know, Hideo Kojima is currently working on Death Stranding 2 but also on the Overdose project. Thereafter ? While we shouldn’t expect another new project announcement in the months or even years to come, Geoff Keighley still took the risk of asking his friend what he plans to do in the future. His answer (according to Axios journalist Stephen Totilo)? “I want to go to space and make a game that can be played in space… So someone please send me to space!”
Note that according to some people present in the room, it was mostly a hoax. But given Kojima’s appetite for unconventional projects, it wouldn’t be surprising if there was some truth to that answer. It remains to be seen whether this game for astronauts will appear before or after the self-destructive game that Kojima has been dreaming of for many years. If you know Elon Musk or Thomas Pesquet, maybe it’s time to put in a word for your friend Kojima who knows.
