news culture “If it works, it works”: Logan’s director sees Deadpool 3 as a prequel to the latest Wolverine film
One of the most anticipated Marvel films is undoubtedly Deadpool 3, which seems to have a lot at stake. Some wonder how it’s possible for Wolverine to make a comeback: it turns out that a certain director found a solution.
The return of irreverence
So far, the two Deadpool films have been part of the X-Men saga, which consisted of the same fourteen feature films (and even fifteen if we include Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness). However, as I’m sure you know, Disney bought out 20th Century Fox and all of its licenses: So, in the stack we find precisely the famous mutants, including Deadpool.
The entertainment giant is very happy with this juicy acquisition and has thus confirmed that Deadpool 3 will see the light of day and most importantly integrate the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And for that thunderous comeback, Ryan Reynolds will star alongside Hugh Jackman, who against all odds will eventually reprise his role as Wolverine. Which brings us to the next point: Yes, Wolverine will be in the MCU!
A fatal return
But while fans have something to be impatient with, it’s difficult not to remain skeptical about Deadpool 3’s script logic. The 2017 film Logan, directed by James Mangold, marked the end of Wolverine: it was recorded and couldn’t be clearer, as the ending of the feature film proves.
So how could the X-Men return? According to Mangold, who recently spoke to media outlet Merc with a Mouth, Deadpool 3 would actually take place before the events of Logan. Pretty logical given the post-apo universe of that last film.
If it works, it works. And it’s not like the new movie Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are working on is taking place after Logan. So in a way they’re just doing a prequel, if you will.
A prequel, the real justification?
The myriad possibilities of the multiverse
We remind you that Deadpool 3 will not be directed by Mangold but by Shawn Levy. Unless you have unpublished information, it’s not Mangold pulling the strings, it’s Levy (and the production in particular) deciding the why and how.
Finally, the other very logical possibility is that of a parallel universe: now that the multiverse is well anchored in the MCU and there is already an X-Men in Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness has emerged, anything is possible. So Deadpool and Wolverine just have to be from a different universe, even detached from that of the X-Men movies that we’re familiar with. The possibilities are just endless, so we expect the writers will no doubt find a trick.
Furthermore, let us take the opportunity to point this out Owen Wilson’s presence in Englandrecently reported the country currently filming Deadpool 3: The actor actually embodies the character of Mobius in the Loki series, an agent in charge of overseeing the… multiverse. In short, you see where we come from.
