Le Voyage de Shuna finally arrives in France! After a long wait, the graphic novel by Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, is due to be released in bookstores on November 1st. News that will please the many fans of the author. Originally published in Japan in 1983 (a year before Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, his first film), this novel had remained unpublished in France, although this book is of great importance in Miyazaki’s work. An entirely watercolor graphic novel that fully reflects the author’s style.
While this release may be a little late for some, know that we weren’t the only ones left behind. The book was only translated last year and published in the USA in autumn 2022 under the name: “Shuna’s Journey”. It is thanks to the success of this edition that the author was persuaded to publish his book in France.

The book tells the story of Shuna, the prince of a poor countryHe watches helplessly as his subjects suffer from hunger and fatigue as they attempt to cultivate crops that their barren land refuses. A traveler will tell him about a wondrous golden seed that could save them, coming from a far western land. Shuna will therefore embark on an adventure with her mount and will meet many people in this Eldorado in the hope of finding something to save her people.
The Sarbacane publishing house obtained the rights to publish the book in France. A publishing company that has existed since 2003 and therefore celebrates its 20th anniversary with the honor of being able to collaborate on this masterpiece by Hayao Miyazaki. Shuna’s Journey is scheduled for release on November 1, 2023.
