Nothing better than starting the year with Shinorubi, a game full of adrenaline and frenzy
When faced with an analysis of ship games, we are rarely surprised. There may be changes in the visual section, or a slight adjustment in the mechanics with the controller, but they all work very similarly. Shinorubi is no different from what we have already seen in similar proposals, but it attracts attention in several aspects. Firstly, due to the size of the ships themselves, whether friendly or foe. And secondly, because of this color which, associated with the explosions, makes it hypnotic in the eyes of the one in control. Even if you like the vertical scrolling shooter genre, you will surely be interested in the adventure that the guys from Red Art Games and Last Boss 88. The closest thing to having a current arcade at home.
The decisive moment h as arrived
Even though the story in these cases becomes secondary, we have a context that gives us reasons to fight and lead resistance. The government led by Princess BAÄA possesses enormous power that keeps the entire planet of Shinorubi and its inhabitants at bay. It seems that nothing and no one can change these paintings. But fortunately, a prophecy says that every 1000 years, there is a moment when the government falters, thus showing its weak point. Of course, at that point we will have to gather our courage and face a whole army of beasts who want to cut us off.
At our disposal we will have Eight drivers available, each with their own characteristics and different types of fire. There will be some who are balanced and others who will use their agility to slip between the enemy’s bursts of fire. There will be no shortage of those who will use their brute force to eradicate any threat that appears in our field of vision. Everything is very well thought out, from the design of the ships to the way they fire. Some will have a more oblique shot and others will have a precise shot directly in the central part. There will be those who will sporadically launch a salvo of missiles and others who will project a laser through the rear of the ship. It’s up to us to choose the ship that best suits our play style.
Power, speed and dispersion
In addition to the common plan, we will have concentrated shooting. This secondary modality to destroy rivals Focus all attack power on a single point, and this becomes particularly useful against final enemies or ships that are particularly difficult to burst. Of course, we will be penalized by a slowdown in movements. And if we’re surrounded by a good volley of purple bullets, nothing better than get to safety with bombs, the special attack that all ships share this will get us out of trouble in the most critical moments.
Although in the game description we see the label bullet hell…I would not classify Shinorubi as such. It’s true that this requires learning, and if we want to do the phases impeccably, it will be necessary train with our ship and learn the enemy’s patterns, especially the final bosses. But it does not seem to me that this is a title that requires us to measure the position of our vehicle to the nearest millimeter. At least in its standard difficulty mode, since there are two other additional difficulties above.
Like a fish in water
The game itself doesn’t take long to complete. In half an hour we can complete the 5 to 6 phases that make up the main adventure. In addition, we will have almost infinite sequels, which allows us to reach the final credits without problem. And speaking of phases, the biggest drawback I see in this title is its lack of ideas about both the enemies and the levels themselves. I’ve already said that the design of the allied ships is very cool, but I can’t say the same about the levels that we will go through in the game, and Some of the final enemies seem to repeat themselves because they look so similar.
And while the main campaign can be completed in half an hour, the fun doesn’t stop there. Besides additional difficulty modes, There are variations as challenges for us to continue showing our pilot skills.
Conclusion Shinorubi
Red Art Games and Last Boss 88 want us to start the year full of adrenaline thanks to their shooter vertical scrolling. On paper we’re looking at a simple ship game, but the size of the vehicles, the number of explosions and lights we’ll see on screen will keep us glued to the controller for long gaming sessions.
This is not an excessively long title and by its very nature makes it difficult to implement a cooperative option. But due to its additional game modes and challenges, we are sure to stay stuck for a long time. The worst part for me is the lack of ideas and differentiation of each phase, all being very similar to each other. Of course, if we focus on the action that the game distills, no matter which pilot we choose from the eight available, we will do everything possible to save Shinorubi from the clutches of the corrupt government.
