A much-hyped new trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree has just been released to the world. In the meantime, information about the various versions of the game you can purchase has also been posted on the storefront. You’d better save some cash, because Shadow of the Erdtree’s base price looks to be $40.
This is just the DLC for Solitude. The full game including DLC is available on the PlayStation website for $80. The Digital Deluxe Edition is priced at $99.99 and comes with a digital artbook and soundtrack. Quite the price!

Then you get the chunky Collector’s Edition, which is where the really big numbers start to appear. If you want a digital copy of the DLC, a hardcover art book, and the Mesmer the Impaler statue, it’ll cost around $250
That’s obviously a lot of money for a high-end version, but that’s okay. That’s for the truly dedicated. But the $40 base DLC is really eye-catching! Especially now with the recession, we may find death runes buried in our wallets.
But then again, we do seem to be getting a lot of content out of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree! Multiple new bosses, tons of new enemies, and a vast open world. A lot of time and work has obviously gone into the DLC over the past two years. If, say, it takes 20-30 hours to complete this DLC, is that really too much to ask? Personally, I think it’s a reasonable price.
Plus, once you look at previous Souls games and the prices they charged for post-launch content, the advantage goes down. Back in 2012, the Altria Abyss DLC for Dark Souls 1 was available for $15, which was pretty cool. However, if you plug this date and price into a US inflation calcula tor, today’s price would be $30 lower. When you put those two aside and consider the seemingly larger scope of Shadow of the Tree, it starts to feel a little more reasonable.
But tell us what you think – is $40 a bit too much for you right now? Or will you spend money on more expensive options like a super fan?
