There’s no shortage of ways to play older Nintendo games via emulators, but if you’re desperate for another, then there’s a recently released one Delta the iOS app now has official iPad support.
Additional compatibility comes via the new 1.6 update, which also introduces the ability to seamlessly switch between iPad and iPhone, improved DS performance, the ability to ‘snap’ GBA games into the DS dual-slot, menu button gestures and improvements to the app’s save state features.
Along with additions and improvements, version 1.6 also introduces a permanent new Delta logo. The developers were forced to scrap the original logo after Adobe threatened legal action over its alleged similarity to the Photoshop logo. The new logo isn’t drastically different and is still a version of the Greek alphabet sign for delta, but the overlapping lines should make it different enough to avoid Adobe’s wrath.
According to developer Riley Testut, Delta compatibility for Apple TV is also in the works, but there’s no word on when that will be rolled out at the time of writing.
Delta includes support for NES, SNES, N64 and DS games. Switch support is expectedly nowhere to be seen, but this is probably for the best; Nintendo has recently been on the warpath regarding Switch emulators and has been filing DMCAs left, right and center to ensure their removal, lending some weight to the idea that the Switch’s eventual successor could be fully backwards compatible.
