This weekend, Digital Extremes once again hosted its in-house exhibition TennoCon and had a lot to show about the new Warframe expansion and the new fantasy title Soulframe.
TennoCon is the highlight of the year for fans of Warframe, the now eleven-year-old but still popular free-to-play action title from Digital Extremes. And this year there was a lot to see again, as the developers brought both Warframe: 1999 and Soulframe with them.
The latter is a new fantasy title from the studio that was announced two years ago. During the livestream, Digital Extremes delved a little into the background of the development, but also had new gameplay in store. There was also the good news that in the fall, significantly more players will have the opportunity to try out Soulframe as part of playtests or betas. A release date has not been announced. Anyone who wants to get involved with Soulframe can Register on the official website
Another topic was of course the upcoming expansion Warframe: 1999 and it looks like it’s going to be pretty crazy. 1999 takes you out of the typical Warframe sci-fi setting and puts you in a very unique version of the Earth of 1999. There you’ll nestle in a typical 90s shopping mall and continue the search for Albrecht Entrati that began in the previous expansion.
It’s all about proto-forms of popular Warframes. Players take on the role of squad leader Arthur Nightingale (Excalibur) and work with Amir Beckett (Volt), Aoi Morohoshi (Mag), Leticia Garcia (Trinity), Eleanor Nightingale (Nyx and especially Arthur’s sister) and Quincy Isaacs aka Cyte-09, the new Warframe that will be released in 1999.
And it’s going to be pretty crazy, especially since you’ll experience important events from the history of Warframe. There’s also a new romance system coming into play. You’ll race through neon-lit tunnels on motorcycles and experience a completely new open-world environment with the city of Kulvania. It sounds completely crazy, but it could breathe new life into the game. Digital Extremes is known for not being afraid of experimentation.
Warframe: 1999 is due to be released in winter, although no exact date has been set yet. A prologue, The Lotus Eaters, will be released in August, followed by a more extensive update in autumn, which will be presented at the TGS.
