The first season of The Acolyte is over. Opinions about the series vary considerably. At least that’s what our survey shows. However, based on viewership numbers, the series is a success for Disney.
A success that the company could build on with a second season. According to showrunner Leslye Headland, discussions are currently underway about what will happen next with The Acolyte. However, an update on the current state of affairs is rather sobering.
»You need to take a break«
In an interview with the Entertainment Weekly When asked what she had heard so far about the second season, Headland replied:
The showrunner formed a large zero with both hands. She is currently waiting for a response from Disney and Lucasfilm. According to her own statement, the American sees this rather calmly:
You have to take a break. Especially after something like that. I don’t know how many years my brain was set on Star Wars, Star Wars, Star Wars, Acolyte, Acolyte, Acolyte – constantly solving problems, constantly thinking about them.
Headland combines the current situation with some advice for young writers:
It’s very strange to be in a place now where I don’t have to do that anymore. I always tell aspiring writers: the most important thing you can do is sit around and do nothing. Because the moment you start writing a story, you’ll be stressed, and that way the story can’t start.
Headland thinks about story
But Headland doesn’t seem to be quite so inactive. The series boss revealed to Entertainment Weekly that she is thinking about how the story of The Acolyte could continue:
My brain still does that. It’s almost like running, you can’t just stop, you can’t switch off.
As the book progresses, Headland goes into some of the storylines and her ideas on how they could be continued.
Therefore, we would like to warn you about story spoilers: If you haven’t seen The Acolyte yet or have only seen parts of it and want to be surprised, you shouldn’t read any further!

The Acolyte: The new Star Wars series introduces Jedi Master Sol in a video
Vernestra Rwoh plays a central role
A central role in the considerations is played by Jedi Master Vernestra Rwoh, who is played in the series by Headland’s wife Rebecca Henderson. Rwoh is the only character from the High Republic era books to have appeared in The Acolyte so far.
While the first season showed a kind of father-daughter dynamic between Jedi Master Sol (Lee Jung-jae) and Osha (Amandla Stenberg), a possible second season could focus on the dynamic between Rwoh and Qimir, the mysterious “stranger” (Manny Jacinto).
Because both apparently share a common past. Headland says:
I can’t confirm or deny that that’s something we’re thinking about, but I think if we’re allowed to continue telling this story, you’ll see more of Vern’s history with the stranger and how that impacts the choices she’s making now.
Further storylines concern the two cameo appearances in the season finale. Both Jedi legend Yoda and the famous Sith villain Darth Plagueis were briefly seen in the eighth episode. The appearances could be the basis for interesting storylines, says Headland.
The showrunner also confirms that Darth Plagueis is the master of Qimir:
We wanted to answer a lot of questions [im Staffelfinale]We wanted to show Qimir’s master. We didn’t want to wait a second season for that. We wanted to finish the twins’ story. We didn’t want to leave anyone hanging.
They’ve been through all this, and we want to reward people for watching.
Headland already has a lot of ideas to answer urgent questions that remain unanswered after the end of the first season. Although the first season does not have a major cliffhanger, some points remain open.
This particularly applies to the mysterious Qimir. In the last episode of the first season in particular, there were some clues to the identity of the “stranger”. His relationship with Vernestra Rwoh is not the only important factor. If you want to read more about this, we have included the relevant article in the link box.
