Crossing the Animals: New Horizons the islands have been taken over by spring cheer in the form of Bunny Day, an event where fans collect Easter eggs that can be incorporated into DIY items. It's a good idea, but the eggs have an impact on what makes the base game fun – and the rewards are great.
When Zipper a questionable bunny joins your village, you notice that the eggs are hidden throughout the map. Rocks, fish, balloons, trees, and treasures set aside for burial can actually have a kind of new egg As you collect eggs and talk to your citizens, you discover recipes that can be made with seasonal items such as clothing and furniture.
The most obvious problem – which I admit is down to taste – is that all of the Easter-related rewards are overwhelming and bad. I say this as a lover of pastels in general. The color palette is the only fun thing to do with egg things. If it wasn't for the fact that Zipper wants you to do it the whole egg thing getting a good reception on April 12, I would never waste my time on any of these things.
Problems extend beyond the visual. Having eggs cracked in all these places takes away the excitement of things like fishing, hearing a balloon in the distance, or seeing the X on the ground. The pills have told me not to mention which water filters and egg balloons, and that you can even fish on the islands of friends to avoid Lunny Day catch. But I am careful to put in any effort to enjoy the game as much as I would like, especially if it will be more than a week of experience.
My hope is that tomorrow New Horizons events do not work this way. Nintendo has been responding positively to fans on how they play the game, releasing consistent updates since its release – and again, the whole scavenger hunt is thematic for Easter. Chances seem good that some holidays will be fun, or at least something different.
I also like to give props here: While I hate eggs right now, I love all the wonderful cherry trees and flowers. And while floating flowers can be tricky to catch on the net, and I have yet to find any other related methods, yet I have the satisfaction of knowing that I will eventually have a beautiful decoration for my island.
