What’s new in iOS 18.2
This is the second big update of iOS 18 and we know that many new features will be released in iOS 18.2. These are the main ones.
Apple Intelligence
Apple Intelligence will not only add new features, but will also be available in new regions around the world.
- Picture Playground: This application, also integrated with Messages, allows you to create images from descriptions and photos of you or your friends.
- Picture wand– This feature allows you to add images to what you have written in the Notes app. If you’re using an iPad, you can do a quick sketch with the Apple Pencil and Image Wand will turn it into something more elaborate.
- Genmoji– Designed to create custom emojis. It’s similar to Image Playground, but in a mini version, the size of an emoji. Those with iOS 18.1 can view and get information about Genmojis, but they can only be created on iOS 18.2. On older versions of iOS, they will appear as an image.
- Siri with ChatGPT: Siri can forward your requests to ChatGPT, but it’s optional. You don’t need an account and anything you ask Siri can be sent to ChatGPT if you prefer. ChatGPT has more advanced information than Siri and can generate images and text.
- Visual intelligence: On iPhone 16, Visual Intelligence helps you identify objects and places around you. Press and hold the camera control button to activate it and point the iPhone at something. You can get times and reviews by pointing to a restaurant, copy text, read aloud, search Google, ask ChatGPT questions about what you see, and much more.
- Writing tools– The Rewrite function is no longer limited to three styles. Now you can describe the tone or content you want, for example by using more dynamic words or turning an email into a poem.
- Languages and regions– In iOS 18.2, Apple Intelligence now supports English in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and the United Kingdom, in addition to US English, the rest of the world will need to continue ‘wait sooner. 2025, release date of iOS 18.4.
Changes in Europe

In iOS 18.2 we have a section in Settings to configure default apps. enter Settings > Apps > Default apps You can find this menu to change the default applications. In European countries we have the possibility to modify more default applications, replacing those from Apple. Here are the options:
- App store.

- Messages.
- Phone.
- Call filter.
- Internet browser.
- Passwords.
- Keyboard.
Search app improvements
Apple has improved the Find My app on iPhone, making it easier to locate people and devices like AirTags. And with iOS 18.2, if you lose a device, you can share the location of the lost item with another person via a link that even works on non-Apple devices.
this link will allow other users to see the location of the item and help you find it. The function has a time limit, the link expires after a few days or when the lost device is recovered.
What’s new for camera control
Camera Control is the new button on the iPhone 16 that allows us to open the camera, take photos and perform certain actions and, with iOS 18.2, Apple has expanded the functions. We now find an option for lock auto exposure and adjust autofocus with light pressure on the button.
There is also an option to adjust double-click speed of camera control. We can choose between default, slow and slower in the accessibility settings.
Other news
- Improvements to battery life and temperature control: Apple says it has improved iPhone battery life and temperature with this update.
- Volume Limits: In Settings > Sounds & Vibration, we have a new setting called Volume Limit that allows us to set the maximum volume at which the iPhone speaker can play audio. This limit will not affect phone calls, FaceTime, alarms, and other system sounds.
- Icon Improvements: Apple has slightly changed the design of the icons that appear in the Settings app. These now match the design of the icons we have on the home screen.
- Changes to Safari Downloads: iOS 18.2 brings an improvement in the way Safari downloads are handled, which we can now follow from the lock screen.
- Voice Memos Improvements: The application is now more professional, being able to overlay two audio recordings, with options to separate and edit the layers.
- control center– We have a new button available for tapping on Siri, it can also be assigned to the action button or lock screen buttons.
- App store– In the App Store, there is a new option to disable game previews in the Apple Arcade interface.
iOS 18.2 is released
Although Apple has only confirmed that this update will arrive in December, the possible release date for iOS 18.2 has been leaked and is in line with what we’re seeing in the beta builds. We therefore expect that Apple will officially launch iOS 18.2 next Monday, December 2so there is very little left to install it.
