Crytek wants to delay the lawsuit against Cloud Imperium Games.
According to legal documents shared by Reddit user RiSC1911, the creators of CryEngine are seeking to dismiss a lawsuit against Star Citizen developers. Crytek now wants to wait until Star Citizen's single-player squadron 42 is released before proceeding with the lawsuit.
In documents submitted on January 2, Crytek now seeks to reschedule the trial to October 13, when squadron 42 is expected to launch.
"Based on CIG's response to certain written findings, Crytek argues that new information has been revealed regarding the maturity of one of Crytek's existing claims, and Crytek hopes to voluntarily dismiss its claims against CIG without compromising CIG with a view to publishing A lawsuit was filed against CIG. The court documents stated:
Crytek first sued a developer for breach of contract last year, when the studio was said to have started developing the two games but only got one license to develop them. Cloud Imperium Games said at the time that it had switched the Squadron 42's CryEngine to Amazon's Lumberyard engine.
Crytek continued: "This case is marked by the CIG model, one thing was said in the public statement and another in this lawsuit." "For example, at the beginning of the case, CIG publicly claimed that it had The Lumberyard Engine was applied to Star Citizen and Squadron 42 but was forced to confirm that no such conversion had taken place during the lawsuit.
"If CIG releases the Squadron 42 as an independent game, the situation will be exactly the same as it currently is. In short, allowing Crytek to voluntarily dismiss now is nothing more than allowing Crytek's 42nd Squadron to mature so that all parties can be fully resolved in one process Disputes between each other. Such an outcome would undoubtedly be beneficial to both the courts and the parties. "
The two companies have discussed the possibility of a voluntary withdrawal of the lawsuit, but failed to reach an agreement. Cloud Imperium must respond to Crytek's removal proposal by January 24.
