How to Prepare for Elder Jinchi
The secret area where you fight Elder Jinchi is called Secret: the ancient temple of Guanyinwhich will probably remind you of the Guanyin Temple where you fought Lingxuzi, although from a seemingly different era or realm. There is a shrine for the area called Large Room. It’s a fairly small and self-contained area, though you can still find a few chests to open, including one that contains the “Guanyin Prayer Beads” curiosity. Otherwise, just open the main door that leads you to the boss arena.
If you’ve reached Elder Jinchi, you should already be pretty well prepared for this fight, as you’ll have already defeated optional bosses. Guangzhou
Of course, don’t forget to spend all the Spark Points you’ve acquired by leveling up and crafting the latest gear. You should also equip Wandering Wight as your Spirit to increase your defense.
How to defeat the Elder Jinchi
If you’ve fought Wandering Wight before, then Elder Jinchi shares a lot of similarities, not only in terms of appearance, but also in terms of attack patterns. Attacks to watch out for include his arm slashes, which he can perform in a combo, slamming his head forward to crush you, as well as attacking you with a flying kick.
His most damaging attacks have greater range.. There’s his palm breath, which he charges by pulling his arm back while it glows and then releasing it, which can hit from long range – though at least this seems to be an attack he does on its own rather than at the end of a combo like with Wandering Wight.
Next up is his ground AOE where he slams his hand on the ground and then keeps it there to charge up a few follow-up AOE blasts. Immobilize or Cloud Step (if you’ve already fought Black Wind King) will be useful spells to interrupt him while a concentrated heavy attack can also stun him and knock him onto his back for a while.
The main difference is that Elder Jinchi also has disciples running around the arena, who aren’t much of a threat at first and can be easily taken out in one hit, so you should focus on the big-headed monk at first. What you’re worried about is that he might order them to attack you. He’ll say, “Bullying an old man? Damn you!” and shortly after, the disciples will start glowing gold, chasing you until they explode when they get close. You’ll have to ignore the Elder Jinchi and just run away from them for a while, but it’s not too much of a problem.
Once Elder Jinchi loses half of his health, he will levitate high into the air. where it is inaccessible. In any case, your priority is not to attack it here. Instead, you should attack his disciples. Others will begin to appear in the shadows around the temple as they slowly walk towards their monk. If they approach Elder Jinchi, he will absorb them and regain his healthso you have to stop them from moving forward unless you want to fight him again at full health.
It’s hard to see where these disciples will start to spawn from given the poor visibility of the outer parts of the arena, and you may have to run from side to side. We found that towards the end, they spawn one after the other in a counter-clockwise direction, and since they die in one hit, it’s easy to quickly switch between them. The upside is that you will also absorb their life force and also regain healthso if you took heavy damage in the first phase of the fight, save your canteens and get heals from the disciples instead.
While Elder Jinchi can still recover some health from disciples, that’s about the only trick he has up his sleeve, though he can always send them after you again later. Otherwise, he will repeat the same attacks as before so watch out for them and dodge them when he does his AOE attack, and don’t be tempted to rush in before he pulls his fist out of the ground. If you’re low on health or canteens, remember you can temporarily transform into Guangzhi
Rewards of the Old Jinchi
After defeating Elder Jinchi, you will be transported out of the area and placed back where you were on Black Wind Mountain, next to the bell you rang after the fight with the White-Clad Noble. Interact with the wolf pelt hanging on the tree and it will disappear and you will receive your reward: your first Container of the game, the Fireproof coat.
This will make you invulnerable to fire for a short time and will be indispensable against Black Bear Guai. A new icon for this mechanic will also appear at the bottom of the screen next to the Spirit Transformation.
While you won’t gain any XP from this fight, you will still gain 2000 Willpower. If you return to a shrine, you’ll also discover that you can now craft the Bronze Armor, which will not only improve your defense, but also increase your fire resistance, which will once again be very useful for the final challenge of this chapter.
Congratulations on completing the first secret area of Black Myth: Wukong, but there are still more secrets to discover!
