More than 5 years have passed since the official cancellation of Scalebound, a game that promised to be the evolution of Hack and Slash at the hands of Bayonet creator Kideki Kamiya. Announced for Xbox One in 2014, what appeared to be a wacky-themed Monster Hunter saw rough development, until it was officially canceled in 2017.
After several years of speculation, Kamiya spoke with IGN Japan
We work a lot on it, and it’s useless Microsoft
keep the game in its current form, so we’d like to do something about that (laughs). Phil! Let’s do it together!
Phil Spencer responds, “For the moment there is nothing to say” on a possible revival of Scalebound
A few years ago Phil Spencer replied that Scalebound had no chance of being reborn, yes, that was 2 years ago. Today, with Game Pass at the height of its success and with the growth of Platinum Games, it seems the possibilities have expanded. We know this thanks to Kamiya himself, who explained the reasons for the cancellation and his culpability in this process.
Back when we were doing Scalebound, there were a lot of things we couldn’t do and that was hard for me. It was hard to fail like that. When the project left, it wasn’t like the next day, I was like, “I have to try again. I needed a break.
All this mess has become so publicized that Phil Spencer himself knows the expectation that there is around the game, stating that nothing is currently in progress. What is surprising is the smile that appeared on him when asked, hinting that there might be some interesting news.
