EA Dice explains why Battlefield 2042 didn’t get off to a good start and what Halo Infinite’s multiplayer has to do with it.
At least 200,000 players noticed that Battlefield 2042 performed significantly worse than expected at launch. That’s how many players signed a petition asking for full refunds on Battlefield 2042.
In addition, the shooter has reached a new low on Steam and the number of players is falling dramatically towards zero.
Whether the following statements by EA CEO, Andrew Wilson, were a reaction to the petition or have another origin is unclear, but there are probably various reasons for the state of the game:
“Our teams have been working from home for almost two years. Unexpected performance issues only appeared during larger gaming sessions.”
And he admitted, “Some of our design choices didn’t resonate as well with everyone in the community as we’d hoped.”
At least those were the reasons publicly stated by the CEO. In a report by video game industry insider Tom Henderson for the site Xfire wrote, it became clear that, behind closed doors, blame was being sought elsewhere.
This report covers a meeting held by EA Dice, stating that EA’s Chief Operating Officer Laura Miele approved the CEO, but also raised some difficulties on the early release of the Halo Infinite Multiplayer mode are due.
Henderson wrote: “After launching the game, DICE released the Day 1 and Day 0 patches to further reduce the bug count. Miele went on to say that the launch of Battlefield 2042 and the patches meant ‘the game was stable’ and ‘early critical reception was good’.”
“Things took a turn, however, according to EA, and that turn was… the surprise release of Halo: Infinite Multiplayer (I wish I was kidding).”
“According to Miele, the comparison between the two games wasn’t favorable because Halo Infinite was a very polished title, while Battlefield 2042 contained bugs and wasn’t as mature.”
In Miele’s opinion, the two shooters performed poorly in a direct comparison. Halo Infinite is said to have been processed much better, while Battlefield 2042 was still struggling with a number of bugs. Something like this does not go unnoticed by players, nor does it go unpunished.
Along with this news, Dice also announced that Battlefield 2042 Season 1 has been pushed back from March 2022 to Summer 2022 and the next update from February to early March.
