Our story revolves around two neighboring worlds: Rena and Dahna. Rena is a planet inhabited by a society of advanced science and magic. In contrast, Dahna is a planet full of nature, rich in resources and a multitude of biomes such as the flame-breathing lands of Orbus Calaglia and the snow-capped landscapes of Cyslodia.
After a quick and sudden invasion 300 years ago, Rena Dahna ruled severely, pillaging the planet’s natural resources and robbing the Dahnans of their dignity and freedom.
Our story begins with two people, Alphen and Shionne. Although they were born in two different worlds, where division and domination prevail, both seek to define their own destiny and create a new future by experiencing conflict and growth together in their struggle for freedom.
Alphen is a Dahnan youth who lives as a slave in Calaglia and wears a mysterious iron mask that covers his face. In his struggle for the freedom of his people, he meets Shionne, a Renan woman on the run from her Renan compatriots, who suffers from a curse that causes great pain to those who touch her. During their trip, Alphen and Shionne meet two young Dahnans: Rinwell and Law.
Rinwell is a Cysloden girl who is accompanied by a Dahnan owl named Hootle. Although the ability to use magic is normally only available to Renans, she is uniquely capable of wielding powerful magic techniques. Law is a boy originally from Orbus Calaglia. Despite being Dahnan, he works as a member of the Rena Police Organization.
Commemorating more than 25 years since the first Tales ofgame was published, Stories of getting up both continue the tradition of the series and develop it further. Stories of getting up Producer Yusuke Tomizawa has said the game will mark a new milestone for the Tales of franchise. With its new artistic direction and the optimal use of Unreal Engine as well as the newly developed Atmospheric Shader to improve the graphics quality, the players feel like they are in a painting. And with a story that is more mature and covers more important topics than previous games, we hope players will be fully immersed in the journey of Alphen and Shionne.
The Atmospheric Shader, a tool specially designed for Stories of getting up, gives the game’s graphics a hand-drawn touch with a feeling of easy movement and lightness. Combined with improved facial CG and increased expressiveness, the game’s improved visual elements create a fascinating world with spectacular drama and heightened emotional connection as we follow the characters on their journey.
