The developers of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge talk about their dream to pay homage to classic cartoons.
Publisher Dotemu and development studio Tribute Games, in partnership with Nickelodeon and Paramount Consumer Products, provide a behind-the-scenes look at Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge and how the modern re-imagining of the classic brawler action came about.
In the behind-the-scenes video, straight from the Tribute Games studio, co-founder Jean-Francois Major and Dotemu CEO Cyrille Imbert talk about their lifelong passion and desire to work on a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game.
After making several successful titles (among others) with the talented team at Tribute Games, Major partnered with Dotemu to safely navigate years of negotiations to acquire the rights to a video game based on the Turtles’ timeless 1987 design to obtain.
“Contributing to an iconic universe like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an incredible opportunity on every level. Even after finishing a TMNT project years ago, I always hoped I would have the opportunity to create an experience set in the original era that influenced so much of my childhood enthusiasm,” said Major. “We’ve finally found a partner who shares Tribute Games’ passion for the Turtles’ debut. To be able to continue the legacy of the classic, beloved TMNT beat ’em ups that fans around the world grew up listening to is surreal.”
“The reputation we’ve built with stellar partners and through modern day classics like Streets of Rage 4 was critical early on in our journey with Nickelodeon and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge,” said Imbert. “Tribute Games clearly share our passion for the world of TMNT. Her deep understanding and dedication to the essence of classic beat-’em-ups makes her the perfect force to ensure Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge becomes the evolution of brawling games fans deserve.”
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge brings together two retro pros. On the one hand Dotemu, development studio and publisher known for faithful ports, as well as remakes and sequels of popular series, including Streets of Rage 4, as well as the fast-paced Windjammers 2 and Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap
On the other hand, Tribute Games, the studio behind original IPs with a retro feel, like Panzer Paladin, Flinthook and Mercenary Kings, which combine the spirit of classic games with a new feel. The Tribute Games ranks also include key talent, having contributed to games such as Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game, and 2007’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the Gameboy Advance.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge is coming to PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One later this year.
