Total War: Pharaoh returns stronger than ever with a free DLC that’s simply huge in terms of content. Enough to put a smile on the fans’ faces.
The game Total War: Pharaoh, which came under fire last year for its content despite a high starting price, is receiving an update comparable in scope to that of a paid expansion, but offered free to all players. Creative Assembly, the game’s developer, had already reduced the price of the game in response to player feedback and offered partial refunds to the original buyers.
Free DLC for Total War Pharaoh
This update, titled “Free Campaign Map Update,” promises significant changes with the introduction of four new playable factions and no fewer than 150 combat units, divided into new and reworked units. The added regions will house these new factions and expand the playing field from ancient Egypt to Mesopotamia and the Aegean, and include empires such as Babylon, Assyria, Mycenae and Troy. Not bad, right?
This free expansion appears to reposition Total War: Pharaoh within a broader Bronze Age framework, away from the initial focus on Egypt and towards a more turbulent era marked by the decline of that era. The presence of Troy and Mycenae, previously explored in A Total War Saga: Troy, provides thematic continuity, with more than 70 units from the latter game adapted for Pharaoh. The remaining 80 units are divided between the Babylonian and Assyrian factions.
Beyond the addition of factions and units, Pharaoh’s campaign is undergoing an overhaul to improve the foundations of existing gameplay while incorporating new content. These changes include a dynastic system that introduces a dimension of mortality and succession, enriching faction leaders’ quest to leave a lasting legacy across the centuries.
