Director Hideaki Itsuno originally wanted to release the upcoming role-playing game Dragon’s Dogma 2 close to its predecessor.
Fans of Dragon’s Dogma have been waiting for a sequel for more than a decade.
After many had already given up hope, Capcom surprisingly announced the development of the long-awaited sequel in the summer of 2022.
Director Hideaki Itsuno reveals in an interview that the role-playing game, scheduled for March 2024, had been keeping the development team busy for a long time and that they had actually planned for a quick release after the first part Issue 35 of Play magazine.
Back then, many meetings lasting several days were held in which the team developed ideas for things that could happen in the sequel. The best ideas and wild ideas piled up, especially late at night.
According to Itsuno, they really tried to make a sequel to Dragon’s Dogma in a timely manner. In view of the ultimately very long wait, the director thanks the fans for their support and patience:
“I am so grateful that so many fans appreciate the quality of the game and have supported it for so many years. Fan support for the game – both inside and outside of Capcom – definitely helped make the project a reality.”
Dragon’s Dogma 2 will be released on March 22, 2024 for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and PC.
