Last month, our Xbox and Game Pass community kept us all entertained as they dived headlong into the pirate witch curse of the No Man’s Sky Outlaws update and The Blight Expedition. It was a delight to see them set eyes on their first solar sailing vessel and set about adding one of these spectacular vessels to their fleet.
Today marks the start of our seventh expedition. It’s called Leviathan, and as it should be, we’re mixing things up again and bringing you something with a little more danger but similarly big rewards.
As the name suggests, Leviathan is an expeditionary animal. The travelers must use all their survival skills as they help Specialist Polo uncover the mystery of a strange loop that has cursed the space-time continuum. He suspects that this strange phenomenon can be traced back to a wondrous, almost mythical space creature called the Leviathan, but he needs the community’s help to fully understand and lift the curse.
In their efforts to aid Polo in his research, players will roll death more than once, but in roguelike style, each death allows players and their co-expeditions to contribute to the community’s efforts and brings the boost to the Curse closer and closer.
Each reincarnation resets some individual progress, but travelers have the opportunity to start fresh with a procedurally generated starting gear, the quality of which only improves as the community effort increases, as do the rewards on offer for beginning that adventure.
The Whalestalker Cloak, an organic mini-frigate for the player’s base, and a Temporal Starship Trail are just some of the loot to be looted along the way, culminating in the ultimate reward, the first-ever living frigate – an imposing tentacle- and spectacular beast – to expand their fleet of freighters.
Today we are very excited to launch the Leviathan Expedition for Xbox and Game Pass players. It was a lot of fun creating something that felt a little different than previous seasons.
Elsewhere in the team, work is well underway on more content updates, and we can’t wait to show you what we have in the works. The Leviathan Expedition begins today and will last approximately 6 weeks.
Our journey continues.

No Man’s Sky includes all 17 major updates up to and including Frontiers. Inspired by the adventure and imagination we love about classic sci-fi, No Man’s Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and life forms and constant danger and action. In No Man’s Sky, each star is the light of a distant sun orbited by planets teeming with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens and no limits. In this endless, procedurally generated universe, you will discover places and creatures that no other player has seen before – and may never see again. Embark on an epic journey At the center of the galaxy lies an irresistible pulse that draws you on a journey to discover the true nature of the cosmos. But as you face enemy creatures and ferocious pirates, you will know that death has its price and survival depends on the choices you make as you upgrade your ship, weapon and suit. Find Your Own Destiny Your journey through No Man’s Sky is entirely up to you. Will you be a fighter, exploiting the weak and taking their riches, or taking down pirates for their bounties? The power is yours as you upgrade your ship for speed and weapons. Or a dealer? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and use them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you will reap huge rewards. Or maybe an explorer? Go beyond the known limits and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump further and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary. Share Your Journey The galaxy is a living, breathing place. Trade convoys travel between the stars, factions vie for territory, pirates prey on the unwary, and the police are always on the lookout. Every other player lives in the same galaxy, and you can share your discoveries with them on a map that spans known space. Perhaps you see the results of their actions as well as your own…
I started playing Xbox a lot thanks to Call of Duty online. Since then I haven't stopped playing competitive online.
