Phil Spencer thinks we will see fewer and fewer exclusive video games in the future.
In the future there should be fewer exclusive games for only one platform. At least that’s the view of Phil Spencer, head of the Xbox division.
Spencer said in an interview with Bloomberg that you can’t play together because everyone bought a different piece of “plastic”, by which he means the different consoles, of course.
However, the industry can continue to grow if this hurdle is overcome.
“Maybe you happen to buy an Xbox in your household and I’ll buy a PlayStation and our kids want to play together and can’t because we bought the wrong piece of plastic to plug into our TV. We’re excited if we can get more players to reduce friction, make people feel safe playing, give them the ability to find their friends and play with them on any device – I think that this is good for this industry in the long term. In the short term, there might be a few people in some companies who don’t think it’s great. But I think once we get over the hurdle and see where this industry can continue to grow, it will prove right.”
