Assassin’s Creed Shadows Lead Producer Karl Onnée believes four years of development time is ideal for an Assassin’s Creed game.
When it is released on November 15, 2024, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, set in feudal Japan, will have a total of four years in development under its belt – the longest development cycle of an Assassin’s Creed game to date.
For Lead Producer Karl Onnée, this is just the right amount of time to give the team enough time to use feedback and deliver meaningful iterations without having to rush anything:
“It’s always a balance between time and cost, but the more time you have, the more you can iterate.”
“Yes, you can put more people on a project and get it done in less time, but that doesn’t give you more time to iterate because it takes time to get feedback from the players and the team and then see what works and what doesn’t and how to improve it.”
“I think four years is the right amount of time to go from conception to production and get the feedback needed to make adjustments.”
