Sonic’s speed is something that has characterized the series since its inception, and according to producer Takashi Iizuka, it’s something he wants to keep in future games. In an interview with IGNIizuka expressed his desire for “as many people as possible to be able to play” Sonic games, regardless of the platform they use.
To achieve this, Sonic Team wants to offer support for less powerful consoles, even if new innovations or technologies are released. This means that Sonic games will continue to be compatible with consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One, even if more advanced consoles like the PS5 Pro are released.
Xbox One and PS4 still have a huge player base
As for compatibility with older consoles, Iizuka expressed his hope that Sonic games remain accessible to everyone. It’s a good move and in doing so it manages not to lose the largest base of installed consoles in history, between One and PS4 there are still a few million active users.

Sega recently announced that the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack would be coming to Sonic x Shadow Generations as DLC just before the film’s release. The DLC will be inspired by scenes from the film Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and will arrive before its release on December 12
