Santa Claus arrived at my house a little early, and since I had been looking for a good laptop for a long time to play inside and outside the house, I decided for him ASUS ROG G513. It’s not the cheapest in its segment, but I’ve found it to be a super appealing option for playing without a lot of limitations on a portable system. I’ve always liked the lines of the ROG Strix and the truth is, there is one. good deal on amazon that made me choose it.
Today I want to tell you about my experience of using it after almost a full month giving it a cane, using it as my machine to work and play. While its goal in my case is really only to play at specific times, I wanted to see how this Quad HD monitor performed at 1440p in different environments outside of gaming.
Asus ROG Strix: a premium product for demanding gamers
Before I begin I will tell you a little about the bowels of the beast that landed in my house. The ROG G513 has many variations and can be a bit confusing given the tangle of options available to you. The truth and the good is that there are multiple combinations to suit all tastes; some cheaper than others, but again I caution that even the cheapest variant is not affordable for everyone.
In my case, the expense was $ 1,800, but the truth is, the laptop deserves every dollar invested for all the care taken in its assembly, parts, and packaging. Basically, this is the team to analyze today:
- Screen: 15.6 ″ Wide Quad HD 2560 x 1440 pixels, 300 Hz 3 ms.
- Processor: AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX (8C / OctaCore 3.3 / 4.6 GHz, 16MB).
- RAM memory : 32 GB SO-DIMM DDR4 3200MHz.
- Storage: 1TB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD
- Graphic card: RTX 3070 – 8 GB GDDR6.
- audio: Dolby Atmos.
- Connections: Bluetooth 5.1, 3 x USB 3.2 Gen1 Tipo A, 1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Tipo C, 1 x Conector RJ45 LAN 1 x HDMI 2.0b, 1 x 3.5mm jack (Earphones + Micro), Wi-Fi 6: Sí , 802.11ax (2 × 2) (Gig +)
Exquisite materials and brilliant design
Like I said, this gaming laptop has materials and finishes that you notice from the first moment you open the box. Inside you will find neat packaging, the laptop, a personalized XXL play mat and the rest of the elements that make up the product.
Once you have the product in your hands, you will see that the back of the hinge and some parts are metallic, not plastic. This makes sense because this is a laptop with high performance components that can increase the internal temperature of the computer. In general, a beautiful finish and a feeling of touch and pampering for the exceptional details.
As one would expect in a team of these characteristics, the design line is important to make the difference and we find here very dark gray tones combined with fuchsia pink details and text engraved on the equipment itself. same. Not to mention, you have multiple items that light up with other matching lights.
Gaming and working experience with the Asus ROG Strix G513
Let’s move on to the good stuff. My experience, as you may have guessed, has been more than exquisite. I have tested the hardware with games like Halo Infinite which is quite resource intensive in its PC version. I didn’t notice any jerking or playing issues other than an initial issue which was fixed by turning off vertical sync.
Ditto with Forza Horizon 5 or Mortal Shell. These games evolve without too much trouble in settings very close to Ultra, so I’m quite happy with them. Especially with the screen, which shows a lot when it comes to gaming. The fluidity and smoothness of any game makes a stark difference to a TV, a world of difference between the two options.
In my daily life, even using heavy-duty video applications, I haven’t noticed that the computer shows a hint of fatigue or sluggishness. And it is that these 32 GB of RAM are a blessing for applications of this style.
The biggest drawback I can give it is the battery. It almost takes a sigh if you’re playing. The system is greedy and the screen consumes resources, so I understand that point. But I do consider that it loses a bit of mobility if you have to be constantly addicted to a socket. While playing games in Halo Infinite, average load times have been about 2h30.
I can conclude that this Asus ROG Strix G513 is by far one of the best buys I have made. Also, its purpose is basically to play when I’m away from home or the little ones are watching the TV because I already have a good laptop for working and my Xbox Series X for playing in the living room.
