Microsoft will increase the price of Xbox Game Pass and make other changes.
The long-awaited price increase for the Xbox Game Pass is looming. As Microsoft told Windows Central confirmed, some changes will be made to the subscription.
The updated prices for new membership fees will come into effect on July 10, 2024. Active members will be affected by the changes starting in September.
Xbox Game Pass price increase
The price increase will take effect on July 10, 2024 for new members and September 12, 2024 for existing members and will be structured as follows:
- Xbox Game Pass Ultimate increases from $14.99 to $17.99
- PC Game Pass increases from $9.99 to $11.99
- Xbox Game Pass Core increases from $59.99 to $69.99 per year, but still costs $9.99 per month
But that’s not all, because from September 18, 2024, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can only extend their subscription up to 13 Fun
Now we come to the individual changes in the Xbox Game Pass, which cause a lot of confusion just listing them and which Microsoft certainly didn’t do itself any favors with the naming. We’ll try to break it down as best as we can anyway.
Xbox Game Pass Changes
Soon, Xbox Game Pass for consoles will no longer be available to new users. Users who currently have Xbox Game Pass for consoles will be able to keep their subscription, as well as the day-one games and the hundreds of titles in the catalog. Those who have activated automatic payment renewal will also keep their subscription.
New Xbox Game Pass users will be integrated into Xbox Game Pass “Standard” in the future. This is comparable to EA Access, which includes Xbox’s back catalogue and no day-one games The price is $14.99 per month and also includes Xbox Multiplayer (i.e. Xbox Game Pass Core). Xbox Cloud gaming is not included.

Xbox Game Pass – Further information
Xbox Game Pass for Console codes can be redeemed until further notice. Starting September 18, 2024, the maximum renewal limit for Game Pass for Console will be set to 13 months, as previously mentioned.
This will not affect any time you currently have on your account that exceeds 13 months, and will only affect your future ability to renew beyond 13 months after September 18, 2024.
So, for example, if you have upgraded your Xbox Game Pass to 20 months, you won’t be affected for now. However, the next time you upgrade, you will only be able to get a maximum of 13 months.
Updated pricing for new member subscriptions will take effect on July 10, 2024. Starting September 12, 2024, the price for recurring fees for existing members will change.
Select countries are exempt from this pricing update. Recurring billing dates will not change. The new prices will take effect with the next recurring billing after September 12, 2024. These changes will also apply to 1-month, 3-month, and 6-month Game Pass Core subscriptions in Turkey, South Africa, and Argentina, and 6-month Game Pass Core subscriptions in India.
