Artist Yasuhiro Nightow talks about the main character of Gungrave GORE and more in an interview.
In an interview with legendary mangaka artist Yasuhiro Nightow, players can learn more about third-person shooter Gungrave GORE, coming to Xbox consoles later this year.
The creative head talks about his beginnings as a draftsman and of course about the game and its anti-hero Grave. We learn how the character came about, what his favorite weapon is, and who is more likely to win in a fight: Grave or Deadpool.
We have translated the interview from Xbox Wire below.
When did you start drawing and writing?
The oldest memory I can remember is that I drew a comic book with Snoopy as the main character when I was in kindergarten. Back then I drew because I had so much fun.
Who is Grave and what does he do?
He’s a character who destroys everything in his path with a coffin and two pistols, intended to be a stress reliever for all of you.
How did you come up with the character Grave?
When I first started, I imagined the screen of a video game. At that moment, his back was already turned to us, so I first designed his back.
How does it feel when a new generation of gamers get excited about the latest game, Gungrave GORE?
I think this is one crazy surprise that studio Iggymob has in store for me and all of you from the past to the present. I sincerely wish that this project will be successful.
What is your favorite weapon in Grave?
It’s the rocket launcher that he carries on his shoulder and fires in the classic and elegant desperado pose.
How do you think Grave fits in with today’s other anti-heroes and super beings?
I have the illusion that he fits perfectly into the Marvel VS Capcom series. Although it’s neither Marvel nor Capcom. If it was Mortal Kombat he would be blown to bits in a horrible way and as a parent that breaks my heart (laughter).
Who would win in a Grave vs Deadpool fight?
Grave calmly defends himself against Deadpool, who keeps striking. But after tens of thousands of battles, Deadpool, who has the ability to recover perfectly, will eventually win. But the most important point is that nine times out of ten Deadpool gets fed up mid-fight.
