He took advantage of his role in Apple’s Global Services Supply Chain to scam the company!
Working in one of the most recognized companies in the world allows you to take advantage of many opportunities. Unfortunately, a former Apple employee chose the worst opportunity. According to a recent report, Dhidrenda Prasad pleaded guilty to committing fraud and conspiracy to defraud the United States after stealing millions of dollars from Apple.
Prasad leveraged his role in Apple’s Global Services Supply Chain department from 2008 to 2018, which involved purchase parts and service from vendors for servicing older devicesmany of whom never made it to the business.
A big scam at Apple
According to the report, Prasad was charged with fraud in March 2022. At the time, prosecutors say he took bribes and charged Apple for undelivered goods and services. He was confirmed to have defrauded the company of $10 million during his ten-year tenure from 2008.
In the middle of the investigation Prasad pleaded guilty to the charges and admitted paying more than $17 million in a written guilty plea.
Besides, charged two accomplicesRobert Gary Hansen and Don M. Baker, who have been charged and admitted to their involvement.
After the sentence, Prasad was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay more than $17 million in damages to Apple.
Additionally, the judge issued a restitution order requiring Prasad to pay $17,398,104 to Apple and $1,872,579 to the IRS. Besides, sentenced to three years probationwhich will begin after serving the prison sentence.
While these types of situations aren’t that common at Apple, this is no exception. In the past, other employees have faced justice for stealing and attempting to sell confidential information as well as for sharing Apple launch leaks.
