There are few games that manage to become what I call “resident”. That is to say that they manage to stay installed on my iPad even if I spend months without opening them knowing that sooner or later I will take them back. vice again. I was recently able to add one to the list.
I’m talking about Vampire Survivors, a great little gem retro that it has already had its popularity on other platforms and now you can play it on both iOS and iPadOS. The keys to its success are simple, but still difficult for developers to adopt.
hold on while you can
The plot of Vampire Survivors is simple: you are a character who must survive waves and waves of enemies who want to finish you off. To do this, you get resources that you end up exchanging for new weapons and projectiles, which in turn help you resist increasingly fierce monsters.
Shooting is fully automatic, so you only have to worry about moving around to collect resources and items that enemies leave behind after falling. Your death is inevitable, the goal is to survive as long as possible at all levels.
What made Vampire Survivors one of my favorite games of the year? First of all, it’s completely free. The only monetization in the game is the ability (in some cases) to see an advertisement in exchange for an extra life. And it’s completely optional.
Secondly, the game manages to trap you in what our colleagues at Vidaextra define very well as “the bubble wrap of the new millennium”. Going to kill enemies becomes a vice that we cannot do without, and the possibility of choosing the upgrades that you have gives you the opportunity to have a very different path each game.
The best thing you can do to see the game in action is to open its category on Twitch and watch any live stream. The action gets frenetic when you’ve been in the levels for a long time, to the point where you get a bit dizzy. Completely recommended for killing time this Christmas
