Apple was considering another name for the AirPods Pro, although fortunately it didn’t change its decision
AirPods Pro are the best 100% wireless headphones sold by Apple and they are also the most popular and best-selling. However, We could have called them something else.
According to information gathered, before the arrival of AirPods Pro on the market in 2019, Apple was considering another name: AirPods Extreme. A “family name” that Apple has only used on one product.
In the months leading up to Apple’s announcement of the AirPods Pro in October 2019, the company considered renaming the wireless earbuds AirPods Extreme.
Apparently, within Apple they were pretty clear about the name “AirPods Pro”, but before the launch A senior member of Apple management suggested the name AirPods ExtremeHowever, the majority of responsible employees opposed this name change.
The AirPods Extreme name was floated by at least one member of Apple’s executive team, but the company ultimately decided to move forward with the AirPods Pro brand after many employees opposed the change .
Fortunately, This idea was rejected by the team. The AirPods Pro sound much better and perfectly detail what a Pro model means. A family name that we have in the Mac range, in the iPad range and in the iPhone range, and to which people are already accustomed. When you hear Pro, you automatically think of a device with the best specifications.
Apple has only used “Extreme” once in the past: on the AirPort Extremea UFO-shaped router to which up to 50 devices could be connected, offering high wireless speed and to which a hard drive could be attached to share all information with connected Macs and Windows computers.
It is true that there are times when Apple has used other types of surnames to refer to its best devices, the most notable case is that of Apple Watch Ultra. Something that also happens with the family name Max, which we also offer on Mac, AirPods and iPhone. But, of course, it was a wise decision to keep the AirPods Pro name instead of AirPods Extreme.
