Android Auto may represent the present and the future of cars, but in the meantime, many people still use vehicles that don’t have as much technology built-in.
[Poniendo Android Auto en un coche antiguo: primeros pasos y decisiones]
It is very possible that your car does not have Android Auto. It may not even have a screen, and may not even have a Bluetooth connection. In these cases, you may think that you are out of options and the only way to connect your mobile is with an adapter and an audio jack, but that is not true.
The adapter to connect the mobile to the car
The device offered by Aldi will serve us for old cars that are not able to connect to the mobile by conventional means. It’s a hands-free with Bluetooth, from the Auto XS brand, which will cost us only 14.99 dollars at Aldi.
This hands-free kit uses a curious trick to connect to the car: it takes advantage of the FM radio that most vehicles have. The idea is to find a frequency that is not used in our area; this device is able to retransmit on this frequency, acting as a “bridge” by reproducing the sound that reaches it from various sources.
To start, we can connect the mobile to the hands-free using Bluetooth 5.0 and then connect it to our car. Another option we have is not to use mobile; we have the option of plugging a USB memory into one of the ports, or inserting a microSD card into the dedicated slot, with the songs we want to play, allowing us easy access to our music library. The last function is fast charging, allowing us to recharge the battery of our mobile or another device through the second USB port.
This hands-free plugs into the cigarette lighter socket that most old cars have and which is also used to supply electricity. A curious detail is the integrated lighting, which can give a curious style to the interior of our car and which is changed with a side button.
The hands-free kit with Bluetooth is sold in Aldi stores and supermarkets for 14.99 dollars.
