When you put a QR Code front sometimes you can doubt between what will be the fastest way to scan it: with a specific application, with the function integrated in other applications, from the camera, from Google Lens. There are many options and yet all of them involve a few taps.
Android 13 finally adds a universal way to scan QR codes anytime and no matter what app you’re in at the time. In addition, it is also possible to do this with the mobile locked: from quick settings.
The first beta of Android 13 shows us what this QR code reader looks like. To have a simple interface with a single button, which activates the camera flash as a flashlight, and for the rest that’s it. A text at the bottom tells us that the reader integrates Google technology, although we are told when we press it that the codes are analyzed locally and that nothing is shared with Google.
The advantage of being such a minimalist reader is that works very fast, unlike the one built into Google Lens, which searches for more than just QR codes. The reader shows you a preview of what each code contains and directs you to the appropriate app to open it, with a button. Fast, accurate, simple and very convenient – what more could you ask for.
