One of the novelties of Android 13 was the new photo picker (Photo Picker), an important element improved privacy which allows developers to allow users to select the photos and videos they want to share with their app instead of allowing all images and videos on the device.
The problem with the new photo picker, which months later would eventually reach previous versions of Android (4.4+) via Google Play Services, is that its implementation is developer-dependent, and currently very few apps have replaced the permission to access all photos and videos with the new selector, but it seems that will change from Android 14
Photo Picker will come to all apps on Android 14
One of the novelties that Android 14 hides and that the famous leaker Mishaal Rahman managed to activate in preview is a major improvement in the permission of photos and videos.
This improvement embed photo picker in photo and video permission. Allowing the options “Allow access to all photos” or “Do not allow” would be joined by the new option “Select photos”, a new option that would improve our privacy in all android apps.
In this way, Google offers users the possibility to select the photos and videos you want all Android apps to have access towithout having to wait for its developers to add photo picker support.
“Select Photos” is an option added by iOS 14 in 2020 to limit app access to photos and videos From the device. In Android 14 this option is not yet enabled but surely in a future preview or beta this option will eventually arrive as it looks like it is fully functional so it wouldn’t make much sense to delay longer.
