Apple had planned its own 5G chip for the iPhone SE 4

There have been a lot of rumors lately that Apple has been developing a purported fourth-generation iPhone SE, but the latest rumors claim that such a product will not be launched since those of Cupertino would have canceled it completely. It has been said that the iPhone SE 4 will resemble the physical design of the iPhone XR and iPhone 11, but will include 5G connectivity and other more advanced specifications than those models. And of this cancellation, it seems that the biggest beneficiary would, coincidentally, be Qualcomm.

This collateral benefit is due to the fact that, and according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple planned to introduce its first self-designed 5G chip in the iPhone SE 4 next year

. Ming-Chi Kuo comments as follows:

“For fear that its own 5G chip’s performance might not keep up with Qualcomm’s, Apple originally planned to mass-launch its 5G chip in 2024 and let the low-end iPhone SE 4 adopt it first to decide on whether or not the iPhone 16 uses its 5G chip, depending on the development status of the iPhone SE 4 »

However, the cancellation of the iPhone SE 4 greatly increased the chances that Qualcomm will remain the exclusive supplier of 5G chips

for the new iPhone 16 series of 2024, something that improves on early indications that Qualcomm will start losing iPhone orders as early as 2024.

With the iPhone SE 4 off the table seemingly indefinitely, Qualcomm will remain Apple’s sole supplier of high-speed chips for the iPhone through next year. A great advantage for Qualcomm which would extend its excellent agreement with Apple to supply this important component in its devices.

Apple’s 5G chip will have to wait at least one more time.
