Apple announced Thursday that Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 are now available. Existing users of the software can get new versions for free in the App Store. The new software includes features revealed in May.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 and Final Cut Camera for iPhone
Here are the Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 release notes, which list the new features:
- Connect to Final Cut Camera on iPad or iPhone to record up to four angles at once using Live Multicam.
- Easily create and edit projects on a connected external storage device.
- Adjust your exposure with shutter speed and ISO controls in professional camera mode.
- Enable focus to ensure your images are sharp while recording.
- Enhance your videos with 12 new color grading presets, 6 dynamic backgrounds, 20 soundtracks, basic text titles, and much more.
Apple also released Final Cut Camera for iPhone (free), which is the companion app required to use the Live MultiCam feature in Final Cut for iPad 2. It works standalone and offers more professional controls for adjusting video during a shooting than the standard Camera app.
Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8
The Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 release notes detail new features and bug fixes:
- Automatically enhance the color, color balance, contrast, and brightness of video or still images using the new Enhance Light & Color effect, powered by machine learning.
- Enable Smooth Slo-Mo to create stunning slow-motion visuals with an Al-enhanced algorithm on Mac models equipped with Apple silicon.
- Stay organized by renaming color corrections and video effects in the inspector.
- Drag effects directly from the Inspector to other clips in the Timeline or Viewer.
- Use new filters in the Timeline Index to quickly identify clips with audio effects, video effects, resync edits, missing media, or missing effects.
- Search the timeline index by reel, scene, camera angle, camera name, custom metadata, or effect name.
- Search for clips in the browser using the new “Starts with” and “Ends with” search criteria.
- Improves timeline scrolling behavior during reverse playback.
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 is available via a subscription for $4.99/£4.99 per month or $49/£49 per year. Final Cut Pro for Mac 10.8 has a one-time licensing fee of $299.99/£299.99.
