Brothers Sergio and Jacobo Abril are architects by training, but they quickly understood that what really motivated them had not so much to do with architecture as with development. More specifically, games for iOS.
Eight years ago, they began their journey in the project they share, Nada Studio. Its vocation: to create original video games, with a slow pace and a recognizable design for iPhone. In this journey of visual and almost meditative experiences, they achieved a global community of fans and recognition from Apple.
And we interviewed them in Infinite loop
Because it’s important. Nada Studio shows that you don’t have to think about big corporate structures to succeed in the App Store. The mix of multidisciplinary talents, enthusiasm and desire to offer something different can succeed in a market as competitive as apps.
Their games:
- 1sland, a maritime adventure focused on relaxation.
- Herds, a brain teaser located in a playground.
- Starman, a brain teaser spectacular design and architectural approach.
The keys to your success.
- Games designed as immersive audiovisual “experiences”, beyond pure entertainment.
- A minimalist design, an immersive soundtrack and intuitive mechanics as features.
- Outstanding support from the App Store editorial teams since its first launch. Globally, not just nationally.
- Your participation in the App Store Foundations Accelerator Program in 2022.
Lessons learned. The brothers admit that their initial “ignorance” of the sector ended up becoming an advantage in daring to innovate. They learned key things along the way, such as the importance of distribution and marketing, and the different methods of monetization.
- In a year marked by the arrival of alternative stores, they say that any commission charged by the App Store is more than offset by the support it has given them to raise awareness and increase their reach.
Looking to the future. All three games launched in iOS and your foray into VisionOS with the Nights application, which we have a game with the ability to interact with, can even be used when Vision Pro is in the USA and you can enjoy experiences like those you have learned. so far.
And all this under the mantra of the importance of rituals and appreciating the process, not just the outcome. Whether it’s to prepare a coffee… or to develop a new game.
