On Android, some permissions are granted automatically and others you must enable manually. In this second type, certain authorizations can be grant forever or just once. Now, Google Chrome for Android will adopt the same strategy.
The bone Single-use permissions are coming to Google Chrome, already appearing as a Chrome Flag in the more experimental Canary version of Google Chrome. Canary is several releases ahead of the stable release, so one-time permissions are expected to reach all users in a few releases, if the experiment is successful.
Authorization for now and no more
Google Chrome for Android is set to add one-time permissions, which have been tested in Google Chrome for desktop since version 116 of the browser, although they also don’t appear to be generally active. They are basically the same as Android single-use permissions.
Chrome Canary for Android includes the Chrome flag to enable single-use permissions on Android, although apparently the implementation is not fully functional yet, so it may be missing some maturity versions. That, coupled with the fact that it has to go through Dev and Beta versions first, means it will likely be several more months before they reach the world with the stable version of Chrome for Android.
However, we know exactly how they will work. At the time of granting the location authorization, microphone or camera
- Close the window without selecting anything: which blocks the authorization at that time.
- Allow this time: Allow temporarily only in this session.
- Authorize at each visit: Always allow.
- Not allow: Always block.
Whatever you select, you can always change your mind later by going to the site settings, clicking on the icon that appears to the left of the address bar.
